I’ve recently returned from a week abroad…to Paris and then a quick jaunt over to Copenhagen for food-related editorial work for both online + print. and of course, when I say *jet setting* it’s very tongue in cheek…as glamorous as it may sound, the reality is that it’s a lot of jet lag, shlepping of equipment, harried schedules and the list goes on. the silver lining is that, of course, the experience…seeing the many nooks and crannies of Paris that are not flooded with tourists, the *best* croissants, the light rain after spending an evening in a Parisian cafe off the beaten path…j’adore. and one of the highlights – shooting + dining at Noma, recently awarded the best restaurant in the world. it was an indescribable experience {hence, why I am thrilled that I don’t have to articulate it – that’s Maggie’s job!} and though I fancy myself a food photographer, I am truly just an aspiring foodie, with an emphasis on *aspiring*.

oh how I adore a Winter wedding…a blanket of white against the texture of pine and the mountains. I loved shooting for Suzanne + Luke alongside the lovely Stacey at the Mt. Washington Hotel in Bretton Woods New Hampshire…the juxtaposition of the rustic against the elegant backdrop of this historic hotel was perfection from their sleigh ride, intimate candlelit ceremony + dinner following, to a launching of wish lanterns and late night at a fire pit with cocktails and all the fixings for s’mores…and as if on cue, the weekend closed with a snowstorm…all was amazing.  xo to Suzanne + Luke for having us!

The last months have been a whirlwind and as a result, I have been neglecting my blog. so I couldn’t let another day pass without sharing this sneak peek from Suzanne + Luke’s intimate wedding at the Mt. Washington Hotel, just after the New Year. more to come…

This blog post is long overdue… it seems like it was just moments ago that we eloped… and it has been a whirlwind since.  Upon our return from Harbour Island, we hosted an “elopement reception” with our family & closest friends.  We put much thought into the small details – following are just a few of the many that made our celebration so special, along with the vendors that brought the vision to fruition.

Our signature drink sign is penned in white ink on heavy chipboard by the very talented Left Handed Calligrapher - and the stand was made by my husband from driftwood found on Plum Island… a barrier beach that we frequent with our dogs {there are now 3!}.  The perfect cake {a prosecco white cake with strawberry buttercream} was created by Hilary of Eat Cake! – a recent {& fierce!} competitor on Cupcake Wars – and is finished with 7 flags {we were married on the 7th day of the month} made from silk seam binding on simple wooden skewers.  Our announcement, reception invite, mailing labels and menu were all conceptualized by  Up Up Creative … there aren’t enough “thank you’s” for Julie – and I adore the vintage stamps furnished by Verde Studio.

We had two fabulous signature drinks – a sparkling “Hibiscus Hill” and a “Dunmore Margarita” – both named for locations on Harbour Island and both were a huge hit.  The Dunmore Margarita was created by my husband as well.  After many adjustments {& taste testings!}, this ginger & honey margarita was perfected and his recipe follows…

Dunmore Margarita

1 1/2 oz. Milagro Reposado tequila
3/4 oz. freshly squeezed lemon juice
2 oz. ginger & honey simple syrup

When making the simple syrup on the stovetop, add enough ginger root to give the syrup a real good “zip”…  serve over ice in a rocks glass with the rim finished in a Himalayan pink sea salt… cheers!

Meet our photographers – Pat + Rachel Moyer.  They were gracious to allow me to turn my lens on them, for an early shoot the morning after our elopement on the gorgeous Pink Sands Beach – a three-mile stretch of sand that runs the length of the east side of the island.   We all went out to breakfast after and chatted like we were old friends.  I have thought of them often since our return, and wished they weren’t on the opposite coast.  They arrived on Harbour Island as our photographers and left as friends.  Many thanks to you both, Pat + Rach…  we hope to see you again soon.

It is our 1-month anniversary & thought it appropriate to post an official wedding picture captured by Patrick Moyer…. Patrick – we cannot thank you enough!  xo, H + K

I feel like I’ve been to the moon and back.  We eloped on the intimate Harbour Island – a very small Out Island in the Bahamas… complete with all the rustic charm frequently found with small island living. We stayed in the Cricket Pavilion on Hibiscus Hill…. designed & owned by India Hicks, the Pavilion was perfection.  Just steps from a beach of pink sand and an ocean of turquoise with gentle breezes – it was bliss at every turn.  Even an evening of heavy tropical rain was enjoyed on the porch, by candlelight, with a glass of wine and a little David Gray.

We married in a little pink church – the oldest in the islands – it was beyond words – beyond all expectations on every level.  My husband amazed me and I am forever grateful for what we experienced.  After a very intimate ceremony, he surprised me with an over-the-top dinner for two, back at the Pavilion.  Hundreds of white blooms and candles covered the home, inside and out… and a Bahamian band played as we dined by candlelight on the porch, complete with a British-trained private chef.  Just us.  I would not have wanted it any other way… those moments were ours, and ours alone… I wouldn’t trade any of them for a windfall.

I found it impossible to leave my camera in the bag – I so enjoyed shooting some of our details… more Harbour Island posts to follow.  We were blessed  to have Patrick & Rachel Moyer join us for a couple days – shooting some film & super 8.  I will share some of their work soon…..
