as sweet as pie

I’m so lucky to have these amazing relationships in the food world…they always produce something special and this was the perfect day for a pick-me-up! it’s been a long end of summer…after the unfortunate accident of breaking my leg at a wedding, and weeks of being in a cast of one form or another, on crutches, and being immobile – it’s definitely gotten the best of me. so to open my computer this morning to a feature on Food52 with the lovely miss maggie of Eat Boutique was just what the doctor ordered!

everything is better with butter

I had the amazing opportunity to travel to vermont this spring to cover a story on diane and her small herd of jersey cows at animal farm in orwell vermont. diane produces small-batch butter for a handful of the finest restaurants in the world…and spenser magazine featured my story + imagery in their most recent issue. I won’t give away too much here, so head over to read this inspiring tale starting on page 55. a true gift from this visit is the butter + buttermilk that diane sent me home with, *the* same butter + buttermilk that I watched her create…a true treasure as the butter is not readily available for sale. I gave a portion of my butter loot to my dad…I drove up to the white mountains in NH on the morning of father’s day and delivered the butter with a fresh loaf of bread for an elevated version of simple toast. the remaining butter is waiting in my freezer as I contemplate an occasion special enough to use it. with her buttermilk, I made a batch of peach ice cream that’s featured in her new book, The Animal Farm Buttermilk Cookbook…it was beyond my expectations so stay tuned for an upcoming post on eat boutique with the recipe + imagery too!

vin d’orange

*this* is an amazing concoction. after shooting with maggie, I went home and made this immediately. it was worth the wait, the daily stirring, the little tastings, and when it was done – it was so amazingly delicious. great to sip on its own as an aperitif but we both really loved it with some prosecco too.  I found a ratio of 1/2 each a nice balance. read about maggie’s adventures and poignant thoughts along with the recipe over on  eat boutique.

french 75 classic cocktail

ethereal 75

I love maggie’s spin on classic cocktails…and this sip is a real star. her version of french 75 is the best that I’ve tasted and the recipe is over on the snippet & ink blog, cheers!

p.s. see the adorable handmade dishes? these petite little gems are coming soon to the shop on eat boutique but in the meantime, hop on over to see some of her stoneware, they’re all on my “want” list

moonlighting

sometimes it’s fun to shoot, just because. I had a free saturday last season and  moonlighted as a floral assistant for becca of Petal Floral Design and grabbed my camera “just in case”. I snapped a few of her floral lovelies at Overbrook House in Buzzards Bay…Overbrook is such a unique venue and I’m now counting the days until I shoot erin’s wedding [from the also pretty amazing Forêt!] at OH this upcoming may…which is  just a *blink* away.

sip ‘n see featured in Bliss Celebrations

now that the new Bliss Celebrations Guide issue is on newsstands, I can finally share this Sip ‘n See shoot that I did for them last summer. what a great team to work with and this issue is chockfull of inspiration for all sorts of gatherings. you can browse the guide online, but it’s on newsstands too…and if you’re old school like me, I really enjoy the process of holding a magazine and flipping through it with a cup of something delicious.
